If your admin panel shows a “License key is invalid” or “License verification failed” message even though you have already activated your license and connected your domain in your customer profile, the issue is almost always related to your server being unable to communicate with our licensing server.
How License Verification Works
When you enter your license key in the admin panel, your server sends a request to our licensing server to verify that the key is valid and that your domain is authorized. If your server cannot reach our licensing server or the response is blocked, the verification fails and you see an “invalid” error — even though the license itself is perfectly valid.
Cause 1: cURL Extension Not Enabled
License verification requires the cURL PHP extension to make outbound HTTPS requests. If this extension is missing or disabled, your server cannot contact our licensing server.
How to fix
- Log in to your hosting control panel (cPanel or DirectAdmin).
- Navigate to PHP Version or PHP Extensions settings.
- Find curl in the extensions list and make sure it is enabled.
- Save the changes and try verifying your license again.
Cause 2: allow_url_fopen Disabled
Some landing pages use PHP’s allow_url_fopen setting as a fallback for outbound requests. If both cURL and allow_url_fopen are disabled, the license check has no way to reach our server.
How to fix
Enable allow_url_fopen through your hosting panel’s PHP settings or MultiPHP INI Editor. Set the value to On.
Cause 3: Firewall Blocking Outbound Requests
Some hosting providers run a firewall that blocks outbound HTTP/HTTPS connections from your server. This prevents your landing page from contacting our licensing server at marketing-rhino.com.
How to fix
Contact your hosting provider and ask them to whitelist outbound HTTPS requests to marketing-rhino.com. Let them know your application needs to make API calls to this domain for license verification.
Cause 4: Domain Mismatch
The license check compares the domain your landing page is running on against the domain you connected in your customer profile. If these do not match exactly, the verification will fail.
Common mismatches include:
- www vs non-www — www.yourdomain.com and yourdomain.com are treated as the same domain and both will work.
- Subdomain vs root domain — app.yourdomain.com is treated as a different domain than yourdomain.com. Make sure you connected the correct one.
- Typo in domain name — double-check the domain spelling in your customer profile.
You can review and update your connected domains at any time from the License Keys tab in your customer profile.
Cause 5: SSL Certificate Issues
If your server has an outdated or misconfigured SSL certificate bundle, it may fail to establish a secure connection with our licensing server and reject the response.
How to fix
Contact your hosting provider and ask them to update the server’s CA certificate bundle. This is usually a server-level setting that they can update quickly.
Quick Troubleshooting Checklist
- Confirm your license key is activated in your customer profile.
- Confirm the correct domain is connected (check for typos and subdomain mismatches).
- Confirm cURL and allow_url_fopen are enabled on your server.
- Ask your hosting provider if outbound HTTPS requests to external domains are allowed.
- Try entering the license key again and saving — sometimes a temporary network issue can cause a one-time failure.
If you have gone through all the steps above and the issue persists, contact support with your license key and domain name and we will investigate further.
